Anna's Ugg Boots
Use 4mm needles and DK/8ply yarn.
To begin, create a slip-knot on one side of a set of 4.5mm circular needles. Holding each end of the needle parallel, wrap ten times around the needle from the bottom, around the front, and over the top.
Holding the wraps carefully in place, pull the bottom needle through to use as the working needle. Carefully knit ten stitches on the top needle, slipping the knot off and holding it tightly so things don’t loosen as you rotate the needles. Knit the ten stitches from the new top needle: at this point you may let go and it won’t unravel. You have 20 stitches in total, ten on each side of the magic loop.
This is called a “Turkish Cast On” and you may watch a video of it here.
